    <title>Crusaders Trip to Holy Cross a 'Learning Experience'</title>

    <description>The Crusaders were definitely outmatched in their match in Notre Dame last night against the Saints of NAIA Holy Cross, falling by a scoreline of 13-0. &amp;#160;
&amp;#160;
Look beyond the final score. For the Crusaders, who have been struggling to find eligible bodies, just making this trip was somewhat remarkable, and the team clearly improved as the night went on.
&amp;#160;
According to Landon Koch, the team made definite progress from one half to the next, “we played terrible in the first half,” he says “but we tightened up our defence in the second and started playing more like we should.”
&amp;#160;
&quot;We are learning as a team,&quot; says Midfielder Mike Vickers,&quot;but we are a good team and we will get better.&quot;
&amp;#160;
Assistant Coach Josiah LeBlance said, “You could see the improvement right in front of you, from half to half, guys were figuring out how they should play the game.”
&amp;#160;
GLCC’s conference schedule begins Saturday at 1:00 at Henderson Field against Maranatha Baptist, who are ranked 8th in the NCCAA DII in the preseason polls.
&amp;#160;
“We’re playing a team that is very beatable,” LeBlance says, “we’ve competed well with them for the last two seasons. I just hope we’re all on the same page come Saturday.”
&amp;#160;
In Other NCCAA DII Midwest Region Action:&amp;#160;
Lincoln Christian University defeated Robert Morris University-Illinois last night 1-0 in Springfield, Illinois.

    <title> Crusaders Fall Short In Opener, 1-4 To SSCC</title>
    <link>http://www.glcc.edu/Athletics/AthleticsNews/tabid/204/articleType/ArticleView/articleId/135/Crusaders-Fall-Short-In-Opener-1-4-To-SSCC.aspx</link>
    <description>The Crusaders were disappointed on Friday night in their attempt to garner some points in the table, falling 4-1 to the Patriots of Southern States Community College in a game they really felt they should have gotten something out of.
&amp;#160;
The first half looked promising as GLCC put together several opportunities to score, but they were unable to squeeze the ball into the net, ending the half as it had started, goalless.
Unfortunately, on the other side of the break, the pressure paid off for Southern State. In the 56th minute as the Patriots launched the counter and scored the opener. A minute later they popped in another to create a 2-0 advantage. The Crusaders battled well but were still unable to pull one back, falling behind even further with Patriot goals in the 69th and 85th minutes.
&amp;#160;
GLCC refused to give it up, however. Senior Joey Whittaker found fellow captain Doug Haggadone with a scintillating cross which Haggadone met strongly in the air, finishing it hard just under the crossbar right on full time to end the game at 1-4. Judging from the roar from the stands, one would have thought the Crusaders had scored the winner as opposed to a cosmetic goal.
&amp;#160;
&quot;It's never satisfying to lose,&quot; Haggadone said after the game, &quot;but the way we reacted to the way the other team played was awesome. We scored in the last minute and we didn't give up, it was an encouraging way to close the game.&quot;
&amp;#160;
Senior Landon Koch looked promising in his goalkeeping debut for the Crusaders, keeping his net clean through the first half of play with four saves. Freshman Matt Burk also dazzled the gathered spectators with a display of fabulous footwork.
&amp;#160;
Next up for the Crusaders is NAIA Holy Cross on Wednesday night.</description>

    <title>Men's Soccer Open Campaign Friday</title>
    <link>http://www.glcc.edu/Athletics/AthleticsNews/tabid/204/articleType/ArticleView/articleId/134/Mens-Soccer-Open-Campaign-Friday.aspx</link>
    <description>The Crusaders Men’s Soccer team will open up their campaign against Southern State Community College on Friday the 24th. Opening kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at Henderson Field, and everyone is welcome to come and support the guys.

Head Coach Justin Braman heads up a side that welcomes a host of new, young talent and returns only a few veteran leaders. Senior goalkeeper and returning team captain Doug Haggadone believes that this won’t be an issue. &quot;We have a lot of talent,&quot; he says, &quot;our ceiling is really high this year, and we feel like our expectations were raised when we made it to the regional semifinals last year.&quot; As always, however, the team will desire to keep focus. &quot;We want to succeed in every aspect: spiritually, academically and in athletics. If we do win, all the glory will go to God.&quot;

Training began Monday night and will continue throughout the season from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Henderson Field, and according to Braman, the team is &quot;always looking for new players.&quot;

Highlights of this season’s schedule include a trip to South Bend to take on NCAA Division I Holy Cross on August 29, and a fixture with rival Kuyper College under the lights at Davenport on September 24. You can see the full schedule by clicking on Soccer.
