Partnership Agreement Between GLCC & The Institute For Black Family Development
We are happy to announce a unique partnership between Great Lakes Christian College and the Institute for Black Family Development (IBFD) of Detroit, Michigan. IBFD serves the church by meeting the needs of the African American community by providing training, technical assistance, products, and resources to church leaders, executives, managers, and other key staff members of Christian organizations.
The most effective way to implement a program successfully in the African American community is to gain the respect and trust of the target community and to provide its residents the potential for empowerment. African American churches can provide that opportunity. They represent the community in the arenas of public policy, housing, and citizen participation in the nation’s civic life.
For maximum effectiveness, it is imperative that academic leadership programs come from African American churches, the foundation of strength in the African American community. Since it is highly unlikely that most leaders in African American churches can take advantage of the traditional college experience, we are establishing an academic leadership program that would be more non-traditional. This program will be structured and delivered to target the needs of church leaders who must manage multiple responsibilities to their families, their occupations, their communities, and their churches. The collaboration between IBFD and GLCC will provide an academic and career program designed to prepare adult learners for leadership and service in Detroit and surrounding regions of Michigan. The degree offered through our adult learning program will be the Associate of Arts in Family Life Education.
The admission requirements for this program include being 25 years-of-age or older and desiring to serve in a professional or volunteer ministry. Applicants must meet the standard entry requirements for all GLCC students (ACT or SAT not required) and have prior education or vocational experience that demonstrates ability to exercise leadership along with a verifiable church-related background.
The credits and degree will be awarded by Great Lakes Christian College.
