Christian Professors are Mentors First

Christian professors are so much more than instructors

The Admissions Department continues to work hard to promote the many benefits of an education here at Great Lakes Christian College. We continue to see an increase in the opportunities to share our story.

“What makes GLCC different?”

There are many things about GLCC that separate us from other colleges, even from other Christian colleges!
Let me share one of the many:
Our Christian Professors make a promise to our students.
They promise to be mentors first, instructors second, and scholars third. This means that their primary function is to invest themselves in the lives of their students as brothers and sisters in Christ.
Then they are instructors, prepared to bring the highest level of instruction to the classroom.
Lastly, they are scholars. They promise to be current in research in their respected field.

What is different about that?

It is completely upside down from most other colleges and universities! Most professors are researchers first. So
much so, they employ teacher assistants to teach their classes in their absence. And the mentor part is most likely to not happen. I do not mean this to be a slant to other institutions, just to relate how much different our professors approach their jobs.
And speaking of our instructors, do you know how prepared they are to teach? In preparation for a recent speech, I looked into our instructional staff by the numbers. Together our 11 full-time Instructors and Librarian (with faculty status) have just over 100 years on undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral education, and perhaps more impressive is their combined service to GLCC totals 165 years! That’s impressive!
And they want first and foremost to invest themselves into the lives of their students. We have a lot to tell!
